The role of Health & Safety Advisor is to assist the Health and Safety Manager with day to day health and safety tasks and ensure that the site is compliant with health, safety and environmental standards. He/she will be supporting the development and embedding of an improved safety culture, including engaging employees with initiatives (SHE).

 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Investigating/recording incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health
  • Undertaking risk assessments and site inspections
  • Ensuring that equipment is installed correctly/safely
  • Identifying potential hazards
  • Determining ways of reducing risks
  • Writing internal health and safety procedures
  • Drive and implement local HSE programmes, policies and procedures (based on corporate policies)
  • Development and drive of compliance safety projects on site
  • Identify and analyse operations to determine hazards, and develop and manage systems to eliminate potential hazards
  • Providing health and safety presentations/training courses to groups of employees/managers
  • Keeping up to date and ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation
  • Manage/update daily/weekly H&S Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Keeping up to date with current health and safety legislation
  • Perform internal audits & support external site visits e.g. equipment manufacture/supplier
  • Write & train out COSHH assessments
  • Manage H&S site inductions for new starters, current staff, contractors etc
  • Promote Health, Safety and Facilities ‘best practice’ at all times
  • Carry out Toolbox talks and work place briefings
  • Identify any H&S related training needs for staff onsite
  • Aid with site reports into the global system

 

Skills & Experience 

  • Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment & comfortable with continual change
  • Exposure to/ experience with validation is highly advantageous
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills for effectively interfacing with all levels of management and departments within the internal/external business
  • Demonstration and Practical Application of H & S Legislation
  • Strong ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines with the capability to balance short-term, urgent needs with long-term strategic initiatives
  • Systematic problem-solving skills in identifying, prioritising, communicating, and resolving H&S issues
  • Engineering knowledge
  • Experience of improving safety cultures
  • Experience with a batch/chemical manufacturing business
  • Experience of HAZOP methodology / being involved in HAZOPs
  • Experience of Behavioural Safety Programmes
  • High attention to detail and processes
  • Goal oriented, interpersonal, self-motivated and team player
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to manage own workload

 

Qualifications

  • Significant related experience in Health, Safety and Facilities Experience in a Manufacturing Environment
  • NEBOSH Health & Safety Certificate
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and its application to business and industry
