The role

  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager with day to day health and safety tasks to ensure that site is compliant with health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Supporting the development and embedding of an improved safety culture, including engaging employees with SHE initiatives

Key accountabilities

Responsibilities of a H&S Contractor include but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend daily meetings and feedback to H&S team
  • Investigating/recording incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health
  • Undertaking risk assessments
  • Ensuring that PUWER/Machinery risk assessments are carried out for new machinery
  • Identifying potential hazards
  • Drive and implement local HSE programmes, policies and procedures (based on corporate policies)
  • Development and drive of compliance safety projects on site
  • Identify and analyse operations to determine hazards, and develop and manage systems to eliminate potential hazards
  • Providing health and safety training courses to groups of employees/managers
  • Keeping up to date and ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation
  • Manage/update daily/weekly H&S Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Keeping up to date with current health and safety legislation
  • Perform contractor inductions
  • Write & train out COSHH assessments
  • Promote Health, Safety and Facilities ‘best practice’ at all times
  • Carry out Toolbox talks and work place briefings
  • Identify any H&S related training needs for staff onsite
  • Aid with site reports into global system
  • Any other duties as assigned
  • Ensure near misses are reported and closed out in a timely manner
  • Review documentation e.g. URS/SOP for health and safety input
  • Support H&S advisors and advise and guide to aid improved knowledge
  • Input H&S monthly data inline with company NFR requirements
  • Review contractor information to ensure compliant with company standards

Skills & experience

  • Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment & comfortable with continual change
  • Exposure to/ experience with validation is highly advantageous
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills for effectively interfacing with all levels of management and departments within the internal/external business
  • Demonstration and Practical Application of H & S Legislation
  • Strong ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines with the capability to balance short-term, urgent needs with long-term strategic initiatives
  • Systematic problem-solving skills in identifying, prioritising, communicating, and resolving H&S issues
  • Engineering knowledge
  • Experience of improving safety cultures
  • Experience with a batch/chemical manufacturing business
  • Experience of HAZOP methodology / being involved in HAZOPs
  • Experience of Behavioural Safety Programmes
  • High attention to detail and processes
  • Goal oriented, interpersonal, self-motivated and team player
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to manage own workload

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 5+ years of related experience in Health, Safety and Facilities Experience in a Manufacturing Environment, experience of working on a chemical site
  • NEBOSH Health & Safety Certificate
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and its application to business and industry
