The role

Support the development of packaging development projects including the development and qualification of new materials, formats and suppliers. Coordination of machine run ability trials or hand packing processes, packaging acceptance tests with internal laboratories or external suppliers/ manufacturing sides. Project management from project brief to pack & print development until final product launch including the stakeholder management. Standardization, complexity reduction and continues improvement of new and existing packaging solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an interface between marketing, material suppliers, machine supplier, and production
  • Create functional dummies as the basis for decision making (support of market research activities).
  • Develop and design new packaging formats including patent checks and the qualification and specification of all needed materials and drawings. This is valid for hand as well as machine packing.
  • Support complex packaging related projects from the packaging idea until it is fully implemented and operational
  • Creation of measure sheets, grid nets and NTM specifications
  • Management of the master drawing database
  • To maintain an ongoing awareness of emerging technologies, machinery and supplier skills to ensure delivery of appropriate cost-effective solutions.
  • To support multiple packaging development projects.
  • Optimization of the machine/material interface as well as the optimization of hand packing
  • Co-ordination and set up of physical measurements for packaging material
  • Monitoring of competitors activities in respect to new packaging and packing solutions
  • Ordering of machine run up materials and ensuring that the run in process can run as planned both in-house and at machine suppliers.

Skills & experience

  • Degree level qualification in science based subject – preferably packaging development or mechanical engineering
  • Experience in the development of different packaging solutions for machine and hand packing
  • Good awareness of packaging lines, function and interfaces
  • Experience in structural troubleshooting on the machine-material / hand-material interface
  • Good technical knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes
  • Commercial, Interpersonal/Intercultural awareness, experience with developments in Far East preferred
  • At least two-year professional experience in the packaging development or packaging machine design area.
  • Graduates are welcome if they can prove their capability.
  • Strong project management skills as well as strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Should be flexible, discreet and open minded for new solutions
  • Ability to both work calmly and remain highly engaged in a frequently high-pressure environment
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD or Solid Works
  • Willingness to travel frequently worldwide (up to 50%)
