The role

The Job holder is a strategic partner for Fontem International, Smokeless BU and Group Innovation, responsible for managing the deployment of all ‘drumbeat’ initiatives on Next Generation Products (e-vapour, heated tobacco & oral nicotine delivery). The role operates in a matrix organisation, and requires excellent communication and collaboration across functions involved in the Product Lifecycle Management of NGP categories.

This is an integral role in delivering our NGP agenda, enabling roll out of new products to markets, but also of brand quality upgrades, regulatory labelling changes and cost savings initiatives. Leading a team of 4 Project Managers, the job holder oversees NGP launches and changes roadmap, managing MSC Product Standards and ensuring our readiness to scale global initiatives, in line with global project management principles and governance, in line with MSC processes and in line with cost targets.

Initial focus of the role will be on EVP products, whilst ways of working and support required on Smokeless are being reviewed.

Key accountabilities

  • Manages the portfolio of projects on NGP Product Realisation, defining project requirements, managing interdependencies and ensuring delivery, proactively managing resource across MSC; this includes:
    • Agreeing with the client on product initiative scope, outlining deliverables, timings and budget
    • Developing action plans with Brand Marketing teams, Group Innovation, Technology Realisation, other MSC functions & external partners on how to launch new products or implement product changes
    • Ensuring sign off by client of ‘golden sample’, supported by specifications fully defined, qualified for mass production and fit for scale
    • Coordinating delivery of the Manufacturing & Supply Chain activities, maintaining proper communication in order to ensure projects are delivered in full, on cost and on time
    • Ensuring accurate reporting of projects to relevant forums or steering groups, according to working procedures (e.g. stage gate process).
  • Owns Project Management Principles for NGP Realisation
    • Ensuring Group guidance is translated into the NGP environment and supported with the right tools for project managers
    • Ensuring that best practices are applied througout all activities (Project Team set up, Agile methodologies, Cost & Benefits, Documentation, Learning) and ways of working continuously improved based on projects reviews
    • Applying the LEAN methodology to all processes, also building required capabilities in the team.
  • Leads and develops a team of 4 Realisation Project Managers; including proactive resource planning, performance management, succession planning, know-how transfer and people development in regards to skills, knowledge and behaviours.

Skills & experience

Essential

  • University degree in either science, engineering or business administration
  • Proven team management skills, with ability to organise and motivate teams cross-functionally in a matrix environment
  • Strong Project Management and organisation skills, having successfully ran complex projects (cross regional or cross functional) preferably related to Product Introduction
  • Drive for results, with proactive attitude and strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to stand back, understand the bigger picture and assess impact of requests / projects from a functional and Group Perspective
  • Strong Product Knowledge and understanding of MSC core processes
  • Good intercultural, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Mobility / flexibility to travel (50% of time)

Desirable

  • Sound appreciation of Brand Marketing
  • Experiences of working in a central function
  • Project management certification (e.g. Prince)
  • Experience with Agile and Lean methodologies
  • Knowledge of the ‘idea-to-launch’ processes and stage gates.
