We are seeking a Regional Scientist to lead our scientific and technical regulatory engagement.
The Regional Scientist – EU Scientific & Regulatory Engagement is responsible for:
 managing scientific & technical regulatory issues to achieve Imperial Brand's EU regulatory and commercial objectives, ensuring the necessary materials and messaging are in place to deliver Corporate Affairs solutions for priority regulatory & technical issues.
 leading scientific & technical regulatory engagement with key EU stakeholders to support market entry of our NGPs and to inform EU public attitudes and regulation so that the public health benefits of smokers switching from cigarettes to NGP can be fully realised in collaboration with EU market colleagues.
You will be responsible for a number of accountabilities, for example:
To drive the global Scientific Affairs strategy and act as expert and spokesperson providing subject matter expertise on priority EU scientific & regulatory issues e.g. flavour bans, public place vaping restrictions, product standards; represent IMB externally on scientific & technical product regulatory issues through direct engagement and at all levels of EU public, industry and regulatory opportunity.
Represent the company on EU industry/business associations and other organisations involved in engaging on technical regulatory policy and tobacco/NGP science.
Provide scientific & technical advice and support on key EU regulatory issues and development of EU campaign plans for priority regulatory issues as required.
Maintain a detailed knowledge of the emerging EU and Member State tobacco and NGP regulatory landscapes, with a focus on core and key markets as well as countries that lead on tobacco control initiatives.
Monitor emerging EU regulatory issues and drive business awareness of emerging EU regulatory issues and trends through cross-functional engagement and training so that the business can predict regulatory threats and implement plans to mitigate their impacts and/or adapt business strategy as appropriate; provide early alerts and strategic EU impact assessment to the business; and review EU regulatory developments to identify potential implications for IMB.
Drive robust responses to unreasonable regulatory restrictions in collaboration with Corporate Affairs and support the Science Communications function in responding to scientific & technical EU media enquiries (including leading the review and rebuttal of misleading science published in the media).
Development and delivery of effective scientific & regulatory EU messaging in conjunction with Group Science and Corporate Affairs to build EU consumer confidence, ensure robust evidence-based policy development and ensure the company is viewed as a credible source of scientific & regulatory information.
Develop, maintain and leverage a network of key opinion leaders in EU public health, academia and industry and ensure an accurate understanding of our scientific results within the relevant EU scientific and policy making communities; contribute to the scientific debate around NGPs at every opportunity across the EU; and proactively support in-market teams to realize commercial advantage and opportunity.
