We are seeking an experienced scientist / researcher to serve as a Medical and Scientific Affairs Officer to lead a portfolio of content generation to support internal and external stakeholders’ scientific and data informational needs. The Medical and Scientific Affairs Officer is responsible for providing fair, balanced, objective, scientific information regarding Imperial Brands’ reduced risk product portfolio to internal and external key decision makers and business partners as required. This role will assist scientific interpretation and contextualization of scientific and medical data in order to advance the scientific platform Imperial Brands’ products and the larger corporate strategy under growing market and regulatory demands.

 

The successful candidate will monitor, understand and report on scientific and medical developments relevant to Imperial Brands portfolio of reduced risk products, with a strong focus on electronic nicotine delivery devices. The successful candidate will need to have experience developing plans and coordinating timelines to ensure timely completion of writing projects, including summaries of scientific literature, and the preparation of reports and manuscripts. The successful candidate will need to be detail oriented, self-directed, flexible, and with the ability to balance workload and project timelines to meet departmental and project goals.

Key accountabilities

 

  • Lead scientific literature reviews as they relate to aspects of the Perception & Behavioural Science & Surveillance research program across Imperial’s Reduced Risk product portfolio

 

  • Monitor, review and critique and report on literature developments in designated scientific topics and provide overview and alerts to management and to the wider Scientific Research & Harm Reduction Group

 

  • Contribute to specific scientific questions requested to support the formation of scientific opinion and the positioning of the group on scientific issues.
  • Coordinate the efforts of cross-functional teams to produce high-quality, scientifically accurate documents.

 

  • Establishes scientific evidence, records, and content in living documents, and re-evaluates regularly so that functions are working from a shared blueprint

 

  • Support with identifying topics (Horizon scanning) which require expert opinion/ a formal report to support the Global Scientific and Regulatory Affairs scientific narrative.

 

  • In collaboration with Global Scientific Affairs, manage the strategy, development, editing, and writing of articles for peer-reviewed and commercial publication regarding key product and study results

 

  • Contribute to the identification of new external experts and establish and maintain relationships with external legal firms. Participate in regular update meetings and discussions regarding research projects with external experts.

 

  • Work closely with global counterparts on dissemination of content

 

  • Attend appropriate courses/conferences to maintain recent and relevant knowledge in designated topics to be at the forefront of scientific knowledge in this area.

 

Skills & experience

You will ideally have the following qualifications, skills and experience

 

  • Postgraduate qualifications or experience in an aspect of science related to tobacco & public health issues e.g. toxicology, biological sciences or medical biochemistry
  • Experience producing high quality scientific documents
  • Experience and skill performing medical and scientific literature searches
  • Ability to analyse complex and detailed scientific research papers
  • Strong organizational/prioritization skills for the management of multiple concurrent projects and interdepartmental needs
  • Curious in exploring new paths for research, proactive in proposing creative solutions and ideas
  • Great communication ability at all levels within and outside the business, including presentation, written, oral and communication skills
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with an ability to build and leverage strong and meaningful working relationships internally and externally
  • Influencing skills and experience

 

 

 

The following qualifications and experience are desirable.

 

  • Understanding of the tobacco category and related products
