Many of today’s most pressing and controversial regulations for NGPs are founded on misconceptions, read across from tobacco/pharmaceutical product regulation and rooted in poor scientific practice and interpretation. This creates a widening gulf between the scientific and political policy communities, arising at a time when the need for discussion and co-operation is paramount.
The Scientific & Regulatory Engagement Manager is responsible for  managing scientific & technical regulatory issues to achieve IMB’s regulatory and commercial objectives  ensuring the necessary materials and messaging are in place to deliver Corporate Affairs solutions for priority regulatory & technical issues; and  leading scientific & technical regulatory engagement with key internal & external stakeholders to support market entry of our NGPs and to inform public attitudes and regulation so that the public health benefits of smokers switching from cigarettes to NGP can be fully realised in collaboration.
Act as a company spokesperson providing subject matter expertise on scientific & regulatory issues e.g. flavour, vaping restrictions, product standards; represent IMB externally on scientific & technical product regulatory issues through direct engagement, globally and at all levels of public, industry and regulatory opportunity. Attend and present at influential (both regulatory & scientific) conferences that can help shape regulation around our portfolio
Monitor emerging regulatory issues and drive business awareness of emerging regulatory issues and trends through cross-functional engagement and training so that the business can prepare for regulatory threats and implement plans to mitigate their impacts and/or adapt business strategy as appropriate; provide early alerts and strategic impact assessment to the business; and review regulatory developments to identify potential implications for IMB.
Drive robust scientific responses to unreasonable regulatory restrictions in collaboration with Corporate Affairs and support the Science Comms Manager in responding to scientific & technical media enquiries globally (including leading the review and rebuttal of misleading science published in the media).
Development and delivery of effective scientific & regulatory messaging in conjunction with Group Product Science and Corporate Affairs to build consumer confidence, ensure robust evidence-based policy development and ensure the company is viewed as the credible source of scientific & regulatory information.
Develop, maintain and leverage a network of key opinion leaders in public health, academia and industry; contribute to the scientific debate around NGPs at every opportunity; and proactively support in-market teams to realize commercial advantage and opportunity.
Manage a team of scientific & regulatory affairs specialists focusing on the core areas of our NGP portfolio. Work together with colleagues in Group Science to translate our complex scientific research findings into engaging copy for both lay and government/regulator audiences in collaboration with the Science Comms Manager.
Produce and manage a detailed scientific publication and conference attendance plan that will enable IMB to communicate the complex science behind our NGP portfolio and harm reduction assessment approaches on a frequent basis.
